Halloween....Where the Heck Did You Go??????

Halloween 2005...lots of happy, excited Trick or Treaters...scads of costumed kids seen up and down our block and beyond....parents walking with their little ones, beaming as their tiny hands reached for our doorbell...laughter as our ghosts and spiders delighted revelers....

Halloween 2009....less than 20 Trick or Treaters all day and all night, some not bothering to express themselves in costume...streets empty as far as the eye can see....most houses dark...only a few "TRICK OR TREAT!!!!...THANK YOU!!!" voices to be heard....

I fear next year just might be worse....sigh...

The Falconaire's - A Valentine's Day Concert

Bill and I celebrated Valentine's Day at a concert at Forest View School featuring the Falconaires, a big band orchestra. They were absolutely incredible, one the best I have ever seen.

Also featured were singers reminiscent of Patti Page, Frank Sinatra and Rosemary Clooney.

Topping off the venue were the Three Tenors....totally unexpected and completely amazing.

Bill was still under the weather with a lingering respiratory situation so we decided to postpone our planned late lunch for another day. And our kitchen table was overflowing with candy and chocolate cupcakes....a wonderful Valentine's Day for all.

Thanksgiving Is Very Special This Year

Happy, Happy Thanksgiving to those I love. I am, as always, grateful for my husband, my children, and my friends who mean the world to me. I am grateful for a warm home, good food, and minor worries in these tough times.

Why then, the Disney-like picture to celebrate this great day? That leads to why this Thanksgiving is so very special....
Thanksgiving 2008

On Mother's Day this past May, Christopher and Melissa took Bill and myself to Starbucks for my annual mocha drink concoction, which I look forward to with great joy. This year though, after sitting down with our delicious drinks, Christopher and Melissa unveiled a much anticipated and greatly planned surprise.

They had made plans to take our family to Disney World for a winter vacation....drum roll please....all expenses paid! Repeat....all expenses paid....by the two of them...still shaking my head trying to grasp this unheard of concept.

Not only is the most generous gesture I could have have imagined, but the overwhelming notion that they...who take this trip to Disney World every year by themselves...thought while on their last trip that we, all seven of us, would have a wonderful time together. Astonishing.

In a time where so many young people are rushing to step away from their families, to back off a bit in order to spread their wings, these two incredible people are readily opening up their wings to include and embrace all of us in something so dear to them.

This gives new and indecipherable meaning to "my cup runneth over".

While Christopher and Melissa will be flying, the rest of us will travel by mini-van and meet them in sunny Orlando. I can't wait. Their love, excitement, enthusiasm, and generosity all pave the way for a trip of a lifetime.

Thank you Christopher my wonderful friend/son and Melissa my wonderful friend/daughter for all of this. This gesture is beyond words and dreams.

My love to you both. Happy Thanksgiving.

4th of July Parade Videos

Captured on video, the Arlington Heights Community Concert Band, riding by in this years parade. Seen are: Tess on flute (she is the second flute, near the railing), Robin on bells (in the middle, before the drums), and Bill on bass clarinet (after the first tuba).

They sounded just great, and played a terrific concert at Recreation Park following the parade.

Once again, the library wowed parade goers with their First Place award winning "Reading Railroad". This magnificent "float" began life as a truck! The magic created by the incredibly talented team (which includes the equally talented Christopher!) is beyond words.

How will they ever top this next year? Remember though, I said this last year about their amazing Space Shuttle float....also a First Place winner!

Note the tall, handsome prisoner waving from the back of the train....yep, that's my Max...he's quite a guy...
