For No Other Reason....
....than the sharing of a beautiful photograph, compliments of Christopher, of a recent dinner in our home. Nothing planned, just life....it's all in the details....

A Vow I Hope Always To Keep.....
When I was a young girl I loved to dance. Dancing was joy, freedom, happiness. I took lessons on Wednesday and later on Saturday at the Joan Marlowe Dancing School in Yonkers, NY. I also took lessons on Sunday at Katie Connelly's Irish Dance School. I adored this place.
One day my parents told me that I would have to choose only one dancing school to attend. They said that taking lessons from two places "would be too much for me". It wasn't. I suspect that they might have had to cut corners, and with five children to care for, non-essentials were the first to go.
Dancing was my essential. It was my love. It was the closest thing there was to the true, the real, the core of me.
So I didn't choose. I couldn't. I stopped both lessons rather than make that Sophie's Choice decision.
It altered my life. I still see it as giving up the very best part of me. I came across this photo today of my brother and I dancing. We were in our heyday, and what a great team we once were. Fred and Ginger had nothing on us.
Looking at this photo still tears me apart.
So to the vow.....I will never make my children choose between things that they love. I doesn't matter what I see in their passions, dreams and joys. It matters to them, and that is enough. I will keep this vow no matter what.

My Lovely Daughters.....
The girls performed in a concert on Sunday with the Arlington Heights Community Concert Band, with Tess on flute and Mollie on harp. More about that later.
They each snapped a beautiful portrait of the other right before we left for the concert. I think they are wonderful.

Cabin Fever - Snow - Fewer Posts to Share
Compared to summer and fall, we have so little to post about this winter. We have been indoors far too often and cabin fever is beginning to surface. We are all feeling a bit trapped.
We try to chronicle our lives on this blog, yet with so little going on, we fall short of our plan. We read, we work, play on computers, follow political debates, bake, cook, play music...still, there are a few things we have gotten to do...
Bill and Christopher attended a Grilling 101 class at the Weber Grill Restaurant in Schaumburg. This was our birthday gift to Bill this past December. They learned a good deal about grilling, and said that the food and drink were superb.
Both Tess and I are working on discovering elements about our newest cameras. My camera...formerly Tess' camera...comes with an expert instructor to teach me the ins and outs of this wonderful gift to me. Thank you again Tess! Here are just two of the photos I experimented with. The camera has quite a few more setting than my old one, so this is definitely a learning experience for me.
Tess and I also ran outside, sans coats or shoes, when the HUGE snowflakes began to fall on Monday. The snowflakes were large and fluffy, much like cottonballs....
....and out again late Monday to capture to snowfall at night. There were no cars on the road and the quiet was absolutely wonderful and incredibly peaceful....
In the end, thought we tire of the great amounts of snow we are experiencing this winter, being able to pause and photograph the snow as it happens, helps to remind us of its great beauty.

A Gift for Mollie....A Family Affair
With Tess now posting her wonderful photography on her blog, it reminded me that I had forgotten to post this terrific family project from last December.
We gifted this collaborative effort to Mollie on Christmas, happy to present her with something that each of us had a hand in creating.
Tess took the original photograph.....
I began the editing process.....
Max completed his Photoshop magic, Christopher had it printed out for us, and Bill remade an estate sale frame (not shown here) to house the finished picture.
I don't know what was more fun, secretly working on this project, or finally giving it to Mollie on Christmas morning. I believe it was a project well done.

A New Camera....and A Life Lesson....
This is Tess' terrific Fuji camera, bought this past summer.
She bought it with her own money, earned from teaching piano. She recently bought yet another wonderful camera, a Nikon this time, again with her hard earned cash....
Unbelievably, I am now the proud owner of her Fuji camera. No, I didn't buy it from her.
One evening I found a gift bag on my desk, inside was her amazing Fuji camera, boxed up and looking like new. She had long planned to gift this camera to me once she purchased her Canon. I was without words.
This is the most special gesture ever given me. I tried to offer her money for the camera, but she quickly silenced me by saying..."You have to let me do this for you. I planned it a long time ago. Don't take that away by offering to pay for it". Wow. Point taken.
I have a problem with being given things. I know this. I think that I should be the giver. Offering to pay for the camera, nearly ruined what was a gesture of love and generosity. I stand corrected, and will work on this flaw from this moment on.
Publicly thanking Tess for her marvelous gift, and her lesson in humility is all I can give today. Many, many thanks Tess. I will take beautiful photos, and think of you each time I do.

Stunning Autumn Night Sky....by Tess
Last evening I was standing by the stove, waiting for the water to boil, when I looked up and saw this beautiful, beautiful sky at twilight.
Tess and I grabbed the camera, raced down the block, sans coats or shoes, to capture this amazing pink and purple show of color. It takes my breath away.
